President’s Update – July 2019
Please Join Us ……
On Saturday, November 2, 2019 – at the Annual GHTK Gala – our theme this year is “Masquerade”. The Gala is the major fund raising endeavour for GHTK and we need your support more than ever in 2019. If you have attended in the past, you know it is a fun evening with good food, fun door prizes, always interesting entertainment; if this is your first time attending – we highly recommend it and want to assure you that all funds raised go towards reducing the infant mortality rate in Guyana – and now also in Antigua.
In 2019, we have changed our venue and will be holding the Gala at the beautiful Paramount Event Space, 222 Rowntree Dairy Road in Woodbridge – doors will open at 6.00 p.m. Dressing in Theme Costume is optional and we do promise you a wonderful evening and that your funds are going to an exceptional cause.
We know that you probably get many requests throughout the year asking for help with sponsorship or to buy tickets for special fundraising events – we know all are worthwhile but it is our hope that you will choose GHTK to support. There are several ways you could help – and whichever one you choose – please know that we are very grateful. They are:
- Event Sponsor $10,000
- Gold Sponsor $7,500
- Silver Sponsor $5,000
- Bronze Sponsor $3,000
If you would like more details about what is included, please contact Mary Latter at email@example.com (each level includes a Table of 10). If you are able to be one of our Sponsors we know that will ensure the success of our event. Our goal this year is to raise $100,000.
If you would like to be a Table Sponsor – we will offer an Early Bird Discount until August 2, 2019 – a table of 10 would be $1,000 – valued at $1,250. Individual Tickets are $125.00 and a tax receipt will be issued after the event.
For those not familiar with our history we like to call ourselves “the little charity that could”. We have enormous heart and our organization is run completely by volunteers – 95% of the funds we raise go directly towards purchasing much needed equipment or providing assistance for our educational programs in Guyana and Antigua.
e know it’s hard to imagine that in Canada a baby is born, maybe prematurely, maybe with breathing problems, maybe with multi-health issues and we have fully trained doctors and nurses ready to help along with other support health professionals; we have the most up-to-date medical equipment and mostly our babies live. That is not the case in developing countries and sadly babies often do not have the same chances they would have if they had been born in Canada – hard to imagine but true!
At GHTK, we are committed to changing that – we are proud of our efforts over the past 12 years but we recognize there is much more to be done. We also feel fortunate because we decided from the outset that we were not going to just raise funds and buy equipment, but that we would assist our colleagues in Guyana to establish sustainable educational and biomedical programs.
We work closely with the Ministry of Health in Guyana, the University of Guyana, the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and the other 5 smaller hospitals throughout Guyana. We have established a Paediatric Residency Program and as of July 2019, 19 Paediatricians have graduated from the program. We also entered into partnership with the Nursing Profession and more than 70 nurses are now NICU trained. We are working with the University of Guyana to move from a Diploma NICU Nursing Program to a Bachelor’s Program.
However, we cannot continue to improve things for the babies, their parents or the professionals who look after them without your help. Please take a moment to purchase your tickets for the GHTK Gala now – just e-mail : firstname.lastname@example.org or to email@example.com
As always, our goal is to provide you, our supporters, with regular updates on our activities and we welcome your feedback and questions always.
Thank you so much for your support. “Every child deserves a tomorrow”
Dr. Narendra Singh, President GHTK
