Saying Thank You
One of the most important things for any charity to do is to say “thank you” to those who support the work of the organization and who give of their time and financial support. This is especially true at Giving Health To Kids because we are a small charity and the work we do is outside of Canada, but it is so very important. GHTK supports the most vulnerable among us, the babies, young children and their families. We have had great success over the years and this has been tangibly reflected in the reduction in neonatal deaths in Guyana by 40%.
We have been fortunate that most of the Corporate Sponsors of GHTK have been involved since the inception of the organization , and Dr. Nar Singh, President of Giving Health To Kids, and his wife Dr. Shirley Sit were very pleased to welcome them to their home on January 16, 2020 to recognize them and say “thank you”.
Our Special Guest that evening was the Honourable Mrs. Anyin Choo, the Consul General for the Republic of Guyana, and Mrs. Choo was delighted to be able to express sincere thanks on behalf of the government of Guyana for the continued support provided by GHTK. Mrs. Choo spoke to the impact that GHTK has had in reducing the neonatal death rate in Guyana by providing life-saving equipment and supplies to the hospitals throughout Guyana.
The fact that GHTK has also established educational programs for the doctors and nurses involved in looking after this most vulnerable population also cannot be under-estimated. Mrs. Choo presented a Certificate of Appreciation to each of the Corporate Sponsors.

Moving to a Bachelor’s Degree Program
At the Reception, Dr. Singh was also very pleased to announce that after many months of discussions and information being sent back and forth with the University of Guyana, the Nursing Neonatal Intensive Care Certificate Program has now moved to a 2-year Bachelor’s of Science in Neonatal Nursing at the University. Sincere thanks are expressed to Cait Yeager, GHTK Board of Directors, who worked diligently with Dr. Cummings at the University of Guyana to move this program forward. It is a major accomplishment and will support the nurses in Guyana in the care and treatment they provide to neonates.
Update on Antigua
The nursing program is Antigua is going well and three of the nurses who volunteer their time to teach the program will be going to Antigua again in February/March and again if necessary prior to completion of the program. Cait Yeager, who leads the teaching program and scheduling of the nurses, advises that everything is on target for the 12 nurses enrolled in the program to graduate with their Nursing Neonatal Certficate in July 2020. A very successful start to our program in Antigua.
Board Member Profile : Terry Sawh
Our continuing profile of members of the GHTK Board falls on Mr. Terry Sawh. To say that Terry is an avowed supporter and ambassador for Giving Health To Kids would be an understatement. Terry has been on-board since the beginning and he is one of the most generous and kind people you could meet. He was born in Guyana, and is the President of Topnotch Employment. He left Guyana in 1976 with a burning desire to succeed despite the obstacles he knew he would face. After working for five years with Dun and Bradstreet, Terry launched his own Collection Agency – The Debt Safe Corporation – in Toronto and Topnotch Employment Services in 1992, a staffing agency. Today Topnotch Services employs eight full-time employees and manages more than 500 contract staff – many of whom are visible minorities and members of the aboriginal communities.
Apart from his outstanding contributions as a member of the Board, Terry also volunteers his time towards several other community service organizations. These include the Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council’s Supplier Input Committee, and the Markham Softball Leage, both of which he chairs. He also serves as Vice President of the Lakshmi Mandit in Mississauga and maintains active membership with the Guyana Canada Chamber of Commerce, the Guyana Awards Council and the Leaside Lions Club.
Terry’s office is a hive of activity every day and he never turns anyone away who needs help. He will always help people where he can and this is especially true of his staff. He will support in a tangible ways where possible and this is reflected in the fact that most of his staff have travelled his journey with him. They know of his interest in charitable causes and he is so fortunate to have their support as he continues with his philantrophic endeavours – as is GHTK.
Our Goal
